A carer is anyone who looks after a family member, partner or friend with a long term illness, disability or substance misuse issue.
Carers are men, women or children of any age from all sectors of the community.
Carers are unpaid and provide help with shopping, meal preparation, visiting, attending appointments, personal care and much, much more.
As a GP surgery if we know you are a carer, we will do our best to offer flexible appointment times – both for yourself and the person you care for.
We can assist you with prescription ordering and collection.
You can ask for an annual Carers Health Check.
There is so much support in the local community that can help you.
Did you know that by being a registered carer with Carers Support you are entitled to:
Information relevant to your role
Equipment for independence
Social Activities and Support Groups
Carer Wellbeing Fund
A chance for respite
and much, much more
Carer’s Health Clinic
St Lawrence have paired up with Carer’s Health to enable our carer’s to gain that extra support they may be needing. Mark Mackrell, Nurse, holds clinic’s at the Surgery every second Thursday of the month offering 1 hour one to one sessions for any carer who may be struggling with physical or mental health and well being. Mark is able to work directly with carers and develop individual strategies for each carer with an aim to reduce the strain of coping with their carer role. This involves practical advice and training such as safe moving and handling techniques, information and advice on other services to help carers and their loved ones, advice and information to help plan for the future and much more. Patients can also be visited at their own home if carers are unable to attend the surgery.
Please contact reception if you would like to book on to one of the clinics.
